About / Sobre Mí

Hi, I am Ms. Rossiter.

I have spent years working in construction permitting in Florida, and somewhere along the way I realized that most homeowners are not confused because they are not smart enough to understand the process. They are confused because nobody ever explained it to them in plain English.

That bothered me. A lot.

So I started writing. First for myself, then for the homeowners I kept running into who had the same questions, the same fears, and the same frustrating experiences with building departments. This blog is the result of that.

If you are here, you are probably dealing with something that feels more complicated than it should be. Maybe you need a permit and have no idea where to start. Maybe you bought a house and just found out something was done without one. Maybe you just want to understand what you are actually getting into before you call a contractor.

Whatever brought you here, you are in the right place.

Hola, soy Ms. Rossiter.

I’m Maria Rossiter

I’ve spent the last 6+ years working in construction permitting across South Florida, navigating more than 58 jurisdictions from Miami-Dade to Palm Beach.

During that time, I’ve worked on everything from residential renovations to large commercial projects, handling permits for fire alarms, fire sprinklers, electrical, and mechanical systems.

Along the way, I kept seeing the same problem over and over: homeowners confused by the process, contractors losing time and money on stuck permits, and very few people explaining how the system actually works.

So I built NextPermit. It’s a free resource where I break down the permit process and share what I’ve learned working inside it.

I also wrote a step-by-step Florida permit guide available on Amazon for anyone who wants the full picture in one place.

If you’re dealing with a permit situation, feel free to ask here. I’ll do my best to help.
